"All the men used long sticks commonly called “porqueraac”, which they used as a defensive weapon in wars and as a walking stick to climb up our steep hills [...], but as they caused many unfortunate incidents they established the custom of carrying sticks called “hasta-maquillaac”, and only the faithful councilmen used the old sticks, as a symbol of their authority"
